GUATEMALAN HANDMADE MUGS!
Today, we're excited to share with you the process of creating our handmade coffee mugs, made in Guatemala.
At Apolonia Coffee, we take great pride in the craftsmanship that goes into each and every one of our mugs. Our mugs are made by skilled artisans in Guatemala, who have been honoring their craft for generations.
The process begins with selecting only the highest quality clay, which is sourced from local mines, all located in the skirts of Guatemalan volcanoes, which provides 4 different types of clay. Such as Gray Clay, Red Clay, white Clay, and black Clay.
The clay is then carefully shaped and molded into the desired mug shape. After the mug has been formed, it is left to dry for several days.
Once the mug is dry, it is then fired in a kiln at high temperatures above 1100 F degrees, which gives it its strength and durability. After firing, the mug is glazed with a variety of vibrant colors and patterns, which adds to its unique character.
Finally, the mug is fired again to seal in the glaze, and it is ready to be enjoyed by coffee lovers everywhere.
We've included some photos and videos throughout this blog post to give you a better sense of the process and the craftsmanship that goes into each mug. We hope you've enjoyed learning about the process and we invite you to visit our website to see our full selection of handmade coffee mugs.
At Apolonia Coffee, we are proud to say that all of our handmade coffee mugs are made and designed in the small town of San Antonio Palopo, Guatemala. This town is located on the shores of Lake Atitlan and has a rich history of ceramics and pottery.
San Antonio Palopo is known for its traditional Mayan techniques and designs that have been passed down through generations of artisans. The town is home to a vibrant community of ceramic artists, who are dedicated to preserving the ancient techniques and designs of their ancestors.
Our mugs are made by a team of skilled artisans in San Antonio Palopo, who use traditional techniques to create each mug by hand. From the shaping of the clay to the glazing and firing process, each mug is crafted with care and precision.
Our artisans put a lot of effort and passion into every mug they make, creating unique designs, patterns and colors that are inspired by the natural beauty of the surrounding area and Mayan culture.
Furthermore, our coffee mugs are not only functional but also decorative pieces of art, that will bring a touch of Mayan culture to any coffee lover's kitchen.
